Unlock Your Potential With Our Expert Therapy!

Gahl Berkooz
PhD, LLMSW

Gahl Berkooz works with adults, couples, and children experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, low self-esteem, and the compulsive or self-critical patterns that can quietly organize a life.

He practices from a psychodynamic and psychoanalytic orientation, integrating trauma-focused and strengths-based methods. His work is rooted in genuine empathy and a desire to understand how someone became who they are—and how patterns that once protected them may now be getting in the way. With that understanding, symptoms can ease and a more authentic life filled with joy can become possible.

A Unique Perspective on High Achievement

Gahl brings an unusual second perspective to his clinical work. Before entering clinical practice, he spent three decades as an applied mathematician and senior data and artificial-intelligence executive at global companies including Ford, General Motors, and ZF. He is also a published researcher and named inventor.

That experience gave him a lived understanding of high-achieving adults and the families around them—the pressure, internal doubt, and loneliness that accomplishment can sometimes carry.

At the Center for Mind and Personality, Gahl is developing the High-Achievement Program, a science-based specialty for people whose lives are organized around ambition. Its aim is to ease the costs of that ambition—including harsh self-judgment, fatigue, and distance from the people one loves—so that ambition can be carried from a place of creativity and joy rather than pressure.

Education & Training

Gahl holds a Master of Social Work from Widener University and a certificate in trauma treatment from Widener's Practicum in Trauma Recovery.

He is a fourth-year academic candidate at the Michigan Psychoanalytic Institute, a nationally recognized, multi-year psychoanalytic training program. He also holds a PhD in Applied Mathematics from Cornell University.

Gahl sees clients in Northville and through telehealth across Michigan.
